Zebra DS2278

The DS2278 is a wireless Bluetooth scanner ideal for both the Scripts In counter or Dispensary and can connect to your computer, Surface Go for Business or iPad.

All devices mentioned in this topic can be purchased from the Fred shop (under the Scanners and Tablets sections).

Assembly

  1. Unpack all boxes and identify all the components:

    The cradle is used to charge the device, and is also connected to a PC for communication.

  2. Connect the USB cable to the bottom of the cradle:
    • If connecting to a PC: Connect the other end of the cable into a spare USB port on the PC. You do not need to install any software, as Window recognises the Barcode Scanner. The Zebra DS2278 is a wireless unit and does not need to be in the dock in order to be used.
    • If connecting to an iPad or Surface Go: Connect the other end or the cable in a USB charger or the USB port of a PC.

Carriage return

To configure an automatic carriage return ([Enter] key) after scanned data, scan the barcode below:

If you are setting up this device with an iPad, skip this step for now. You will perform this step at a later time.

Pair DS2278 with Surface Go Bluetooth

  1. To set the DS2278 device in Pairing Mode, scan the pairing barcode (below) from the User Guide.

    The device will beep to notify your that is now pairing.

  2. On the Surface Go, select the blue Bluetooth icon (on the Task bar), then Add a Bluetooth Device.

  3. In Bluetooth & other devices, select add a Bluetooth Device.
  4. On Add a device, select Bluethooth.
  5. Wait for 30 seconds, until your DS2278 device is listed, then select it.

    At first it will display keyboard, then it will change to DS2278 after a brief delay.

  6. Once the DS2278 is connected, the Surface Go displays a success message: Your device is ready to go!

Pair DS2278 with iPad Bluetooth

  1. Scan the following two barcodes.

    You can scan directly from the screen, or you can print the image, then scan it.

    • This barcode enables IOS features.

    • This barcode puts the scanner into pairing mode.

    The device will beep to notify that it is now pairing.

  2. On the iPad, select Settings (on the bottom dock).

  3. In Settings, navigate to Bluetooth and ensure the toggle is ON.

  4. Once the iPad is connected, scan the following barcode to enable Enhanced QR scanning.

  5. Scan the Carriage Return barcode (found in the User Guide).
  6. When connecting the scanner to the tablet, the automatic display of the IOS keyboard is disabled.

    To restore this functionality, press the trigger on the barcode scanner twice.

Test the scanner with MedView Flow

  1. Open the MedView Flow portal: https://portal.mymedview.com.au
  2. Go to the IN section and select the scanning field.

  3. Pull the trigger on the device to scan the barcode (or QR Code) of an electronic prescription.
  4. Check that the barcode has been added to MedView Flow, ready for processing.
